IYC Young Composers - LGBTIQ+ Inclusion Project
In 2026, we have received funding from the Department for Children, Disability and Equality for our Glór Bród IYC Young Composer Project, celebrating inclusion and belonging in the Irish Youth Choirs.
With this funding, Sing Ireland are running a programme celebrating LGBTIQ+ identities with the Irish Youth Choirs, with a workshop and commission celebrating themes of belonging and inclusion from Irish composer Seán Doherty. Two Young Composers from the Irish Youth Choir18-25 have been selected to undertake a mentorship programme with Seán Doherty, where they will both be writing part of the commission alongside Seán. Sing Ireland will also be running a workshop on supporting LBGTIQ+ singers in choral and group singing settings online in 2027.
These pieces are currently in composition, and will be premiered in 2027.

Meet the Composers
Seán Doherty
Seán Doherty is an award-winning composer from Ireland whose captivating compositions are fast becoming a favourite of choirs worldwide. His music has a deep connection to the text, often with strong moral and social themes. Seán’s work has been described as ‘unfailingly gripping’ (Irish Times) and music of ‘power, subtlety and richness’ (Josep Vila i Casañas: World Youth Choir). Seán is an assistant professor of music in Dublin City University, where he leads a Masters in Choral Studies with his colleague Dr Róisín Blunnie.
