Orff-Schulwerk Association Ireland (OSAI) is holding a workshop weekend on 16-17 November 2024 in the MG Laois / Laois School of Music premises. Our weekend last year with Soili Perkio was an enormous success and since then we have formed an Irish Orff Association and been recognised as members of the International Orff-Schulwerk Forum. We are really excited for this weekend and hope to see many Musician Educators, Primary Teachers and Arts Practitioners who are interested in using the Orff approach in their practice here in Ireland and further afield. Orff-Schulwerk is a holistic and child-centred creative approach to music and movement education and to broader creative arts practice. This event is particular suitable for Early Childhood and Primary Years Musician Educators and Primary Teachers, however the approach has applications in all areas of music and movement education and for all ages.
‘Tús Turais - a Schulwerk for Ireland’
Developing the Orff-Schulwerk approach for Ireland.
The launch of Orff-Schulwerk Association Ireland (OSAI) offers us a great opportunity to explore how we can reflect the breadth of Irish culture, both traditional and contemporary, in our music and movement education. Led on Saturday by Caroline McCluskey of the Scottish Orff-Schulwerk Association, we will explore how we can use traditional music, dance and culture to create and play with children and young people. On Sunday we will explore some of these aspects of Irish traditional culture with Aileen Lambert, Wexford folklorist who works with Heritage in Schools. The weekend will also include the first ever AGM of the Orff-Schulwerk Association of Ireland! Suitable for everyone who uses music, movement and culture in their creative work with children and young people in Ireland!
