Fingal County Council Arts Office, in partnership with Sing Ireland, invites applications from experienced professional choral directors to undertake the role of Choral Coordinator for Fingal Voices, a major community choral project taking place from Autumn 2026 to Autumn 2027 in Fingal, Co. Dublin.

We are seeking a choral director with a strong track record in community choral practice and event organisation. The successful applicant will work closely with commissioned composer Seán Doherty, participating choirs across Fingal, and the project partners to develop and realise an ambitious new site-responsive choral work that will premiere in Culture House, Swords as part of its opening programme in Autumn 2027.

Project Overview

Fingal Voices is a collaborative choral project bringing together community choirs from across Fingal to create and perform a newly commissioned choral work.

The project is designed to foster artistic collaboration between a professional composer, an experienced choral director and a network of amateur choirs. Through workshops, rehearsals and an iterative creative process, the participating singers will contribute to the development of a new composition that reflects both the voices of the community, and the unique architectural and acoustic qualities of Culture House.

The completed work will be premiered by a large massed community choir in Culture House, Swords.

Role of the Choral Coordinator

The Choral Coordinator will provide the artistic leadership, event planning and communications for the community singing programme and will work in close partnership with the commissioned composer, the Swords Cultural Quarter programming team, and the individual choirs throughout the residency.

Responsibilities will include:

• Traveling to the various participating choirs across Fingal to deliver workshops and rehearsal of the composition.
• Collaborating closely with the commissioned composer throughout the composition process, providing practical musical guidance and feedback arising from workshop activity.
• Exploring new approaches to community choral performance and participation.
• Coordinating rehearsal schedules, in consultation with participating choirs and project partners.
• Preparing repertoire in collaboration with the choirs and composer.
• Preparing participating choirs for the final performance.
• Contributing to artistic oversight of the premiere performance at Culture House, Swords.
• Supporting the mentoring of apprentice composers where appropriate.
• Participating in planning meetings and project evaluation with Fingal County Council Arts Office and project partners.

• Have significant experience directing community and amateur choirs.
• Demonstrate excellence in artistic leadership, rehearsal direction, and event management and design.
• Have experience of collaborative creative practice with composers or interdisciplinary artists.
• Are interested in exploring experimental and site-responsive approaches to choral performance.
• Have experience working with singers of varied musical backgrounds and abilities.
• Are skilled facilitators with strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Are available to participate throughout the project period from Autumn 2026 to October 2027.

Proposed Fee Structure

€10,500 - Contract for services, inclusive fee to include any travel expenses.
