AIB Choir is a mixed-voice, inclusive and vibrant choir that brings together colleagues and friends of AIB through the joy of singing. The choir promotes wellbeing, teamwork and creativity, representing AIB at internal and external events through a diverse and uplifting repertoire.
Role: Musical Director
The Musical Director will provide artistic leadership and play a central role in developing the musical standards, identity and profile of AIB Choir.
Roles & Responsibilities of the Music Director
The Musical Director is responsible for the choir’s musical direction and all rehearsal and performance activities. Key duties include:
1. Planning musical events each term — typically at least two concerts and other agreed performances, aligned with workload, suitability, and budget.
2. Managing weekly rehearsals — conducting rehearsals each Wednesday evening, preparing focused practice schedules, maintaining clear communication with the choir and committee, engaging an appropriate deputy in the case of conductor absence, and auditioning and selecting soloists from the choir as repertoire demands.
3. Conducting public performances — leading the choir or appointing a deputy/guest conductor with committee approval.
4. Performance quality — continually assessing musical achievement and choir attendance.
5. Recruiting and managing musicians — coordinating accompanists, instrumentalists, and additional singers within budget limits.
6. Setting and managing project budgets — agreeing on financial plans with the committee to cover instruments, equipment, and performer costs.
Skills & Qualifications
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
• Musical competence with experience in choral conducting
• Good knowledge of voice, vocal technique and vocal health
• Ability to work effectively with singers of varying musical experience
• An interest in diverse musical styles, including contemporary, popular and choral repertoire
• Open minded, inclusive and confident working with diverse groups
• Professional, enthusiastic and collaborative in approach
• Previous experience working with community or workplace choirs is desirable

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to audition with the choir.
Auditions will be approximately 25 minutes and will take place with AIB Choir. Candidates will be asked to:
• Lead a warm-up (5–10 minutes), which may include a canon or short musical activity
• Rehearse a known piece of music with the choir
• Teach a new piece of music to the choir
