Details: Applications are invited for the post of Musical Director of the East Cork Choral Society, beginning in September 2026.

The ECCS is a long-established SATB choir, with c.70 members. It was founded in 1979 and based in Midleton. It is a "no audition, no competitions" community choir which performs two major oratorios with orchestra and soloists each season. Performances of lighter music and church services are undertaken sometimes to complete the season. The choir sings in venues around Cork city/county and occasionally in other parts of Ireland and abroad.

The successful candidate will be responsible for organising and conducting these performances as well as all the preparation work that this entails.

Requirements:

  • Experience of leading choir rehearsals andperformances and teaching vocal techniques to attain high musical standards

  • Experience of conducting an orchestra andworking with soloists

  • Being available to direct rehearsals everyThursday during school terms in Midleton from 8 to 10 p.m. and any otherrehearsals deemed necessary before a performance

  • The ability to engage and motivate a choir wheremembers have varying levels of knowledge and experience

  • The ability to create a positive and inclusivelearning environment at practices

  • Maintaining the stated ethos of the East CorkChoral Society which is dedicated to performing oratorio, both well-known andlesser-known

  • Excellent communication skills with the committee to plan each season's concert repertoire, providing variety for choir members and opportunity and appeal to our audiences
